My Run Career

I was thinking about my running career A LOT over the last couple days. And I attribute it to some of the many bloggers that I read that complete marathons all the time..and especially the ones that completed the Walt Disney Marathon this past weekend. Of course I see so many bloggers talk about their experiences of marathons, but having at least 5 bloggers be there and share there running stories was awesome.

So this got me thinking…I want to plan my races..at least my major races…so I did and this is what I have come up with…These will all be my races for the next two years, unless something unforeseeable happens in the future: Like my knee breaks..or the registration gets sold out (the last one on this list usually sells out in an hour..I’ll sit at my computer for hours waiting and hopefully I get in).

My Running Future 2013-2014:

March 2013- Rock and Roll USA Half Marathon

April 2013- Cherry Blossom 10 miler

June 2013- Alexandria Running Festival Half Marathon

October 2013- Wilson Bridge Half Marathon (since we deferred from 2012)

February 2014- Disney Princess Half Marathon (First Race I’d be traveling for)

October 2014- MCM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen I’ve decided to run my first Marathon in 2014!!! I know its a long way off…but I want to put pen to paper (or in this case fingers to keyboard) to make sure I do it. And now that I’ve declared it to my readers, I HAVE to do it. It’s perfect because it will be after completing 6 half marathons (if all goes well!). I can’t believe I’m going to do this…ahhhh!!!!

I’ve read so many first time marathon posts..any advice for this far in advance? :)

  1. That’s a long time away from now… Almost too long. I did my first half marathon then jumped right to my first full 2 months later. If you’ve done a few half marathons then you’re probably ready now. You just have to have confidence and be willing to hurt. No need to be scared. Just get your nutrition right and become friends with the pain. Once you learn how to cope with running while hurting, then the sky is the limit. I did my first 50 mile ultra a few months ago and I can’t wait to do a 100k this summer. Best of luck to you in your training. :-)

    • Thank you so much for your advice! I’m going to wait based on two things, timing and mental preparedness. I want Marine Corp Marathon to be my first marathon because it is a local one that I’ve always dreamed of running and this October just won’t work (we will be in the middle of buying and moving into a new house..so time to train won’t be there) and second I won’t be mentally prepared. I know physically I could probably do it, but not mentally. I know in 2014 I’ll be ready for sure. Thank you again for your advice and good luck with your running adventures..I look up to you for completing those awesome races!!

  2. What a great schedule!! I am planning on doing 4 half marathons this year too! I just have no desire to do the 26.2… That may change who knows. I am doing the Rock n Roll (woo!!) and then I am thinking the Virginia Wine Country have in June. I still need to pick the races for June, Sept, and Dec! I’ve been lazy about looking them up!
